Quick Trip to Lake Tahoe

We took a quick overnight trip to Lake Tahoe.  It is only an 1 and 1/2 from our house.  We really should go more often.  It was really beautiful.  We camped for the night right by the lake and woke up to a very beautiful sunrise.  It was cold in the night, but we were prepared with lots of warm clothes and sleeping bags.

After exploring the lake and having breakfast, we headed to Emerald Bay and hiked down to Vikingsholm.  Vikingsholm is a mansion build in the 1920's right on the lake.  It is build in a Scandinavian style with very intricate wood work and stone work.  We all loved the big house and grounds.  The views were very beautiful  on the hike down and the hike up.

The pictures don't do it justice!  We really love Lake Tahoe and look forward to spending more time there

Buffalo Chips Track Meet

The kids had  a track meet on Saturday with their Buffalo Chips Running Club.  Sarah and Alex ran in relays and in individual events.  They both had a lot of fun and are good sports.  Here are some of our favorite pictures from the night.

Parents could enter the races.  Daddy entered the mile.  He said he wouldn't go too fast, because he didn't want to make the kids feel bad.  He won the race, but gave the kid right behind him some good competition.

California Train Museum

We recently spent a Saturday at the CaliforniaTrain Museum in Old Town Sacramento. It happened to be National Train Day.  The kids won free model trains and had a lot of fun exploring all of the cool trains. This is the best train museum we have been to.  They had lots of big train cars to walk through and activities for the kids.  We got to go aboard a new Amtrack train out in the train yard and check out all of the different cars. We had a fun afternoon.  Now we just need to find some time to take a real trip on a train.
