Trip to Point Reyes with Uncle Mark and Aunt EJ

This past Saturday we met Uncle Mark and Aunt EJ at Point Reyes National Seashore.  We explored Drakes Beach and had a picnic there.  We had originally wanted to see the Gray Whales in their migration north, but because of high winds the lighthouse was closed.  So we opted to walking through Point Reyes Station and checking out all of the little shops until low tide.  It was really fun.  Once the tide had gone down we drove to Agate Beach and checked out the tide pools.  We found some really fun things on this lesser known beach.

After the beach we decided to find somewhere for dinner together before driving home.   We remembered on the single lane Highway 1 that we needed to get gas.  The distance to empty said 10 miles and we had no idea how far until we could fill up.   We started getting nervous.   We found a turn out and Mark and EJ checked their GPS and said there was a gas station in 2-6 miles.  Whew...we thought.  Until we came to a dead stop in traffic on the highway.  All we could see were lines of red brake lights on the winding road ahead.  We took guesses as to what the cause was --  Mommy was sure it was an accident and Sarah was sure it was construction.  We were now down to 5 miles until empty, so we started praying.  Traffic was barely crawling until we finally came to a weird light for construction that only let a single lane of traffic through at a time.  The light was for construction on the road (which they weren't doing at 6pm at night on a Saturday, but whatever).  Once through the light,  and with 3 miles left until empty, we saw lights from the town.  We made it to town just in time and filled up the car.  We definitely learned our lesson to pay attention to how much gas we have when sight seeing on the coast and we said a prayer of gratitude.

Mark and EJ found a really good Mexican Restaurant for dinner.  It was so good.  We had fun talking and then drove home.  All of the kids fell asleep and Mommy and Daddy enjoyed having a nice quiet time to talk.  What a fun day.

Catching up...

We have had a busy and fun couple of weeks.  We enjoyed making Valentines boxes this year for Family Home Evening and then giving each other valentines.

We also took a trip to Old Town Sacramento for Presidents Day.  We walked through the town and explored all of the little shops.   For every one novelty store there were 2 candy stores.  The kids loved it, but Mommy and Daddy weren't too excited about it.  We enjoyed the little school house and toy store then walked back to our car. There was still some daylight so we decided at the last minute to go to UC Davis and walk around the arboretum.  We all loved looking at the new blossoms and exploring all of the cool plants and trees.
