After the beach we decided to find somewhere for dinner together before driving home. We remembered on the single lane Highway 1 that we needed to get gas. The distance to empty said 10 miles and we had no idea how far until we could fill up. We started getting nervous. We found a turn out and Mark and EJ checked their GPS and said there was a gas station in 2-6 miles. Whew...we thought. Until we came to a dead stop in traffic on the highway. All we could see were lines of red brake lights on the winding road ahead. We took guesses as to what the cause was -- Mommy was sure it was an accident and Sarah was sure it was construction. We were now down to 5 miles until empty, so we started praying. Traffic was barely crawling until we finally came to a weird light for construction that only let a single lane of traffic through at a time. The light was for construction on the road (which they weren't doing at 6pm at night on a Saturday, but whatever). Once through the light, and with 3 miles left until empty, we saw lights from the town. We made it to town just in time and filled up the car. We definitely learned our lesson to pay attention to how much gas we have when sight seeing on the coast and we said a prayer of gratitude.
Mark and EJ found a really good Mexican Restaurant for dinner. It was so good. We had fun talking and then drove home. All of the kids fell asleep and Mommy and Daddy enjoyed having a nice quiet time to talk. What a fun day.
